A fantasy card game for kids, with real depth
If your child already loves collectible cards, or if you yourself have stayed up too late with a card game, you know the difference between a game that just hands out cards and one that has soul. I wanted to build the latter, just for kids.
Summagon Digital is a fantasy card game where every card means something, and where it takes a bit of cunning to win.
A world to step into
Summagon is set in a fantasy world where the magic has begun to fade. The cards are shards, small windows into ancient souls, and the child carries the hope through a journey that goes from a forest, on across harsh icebergs, all the way to a tower. Each part has its own feel. It's not a backdrop you click past. It's a place to explore.
Duels with cards and dice
The heart of Summagon Digital is the duels. The child faces opponents and plays cards that combine a value with different abilities. Some cards crush the opponent's attack, others steal or deal damage over time. The dice adds a bit of luck, but it's which cards you choose, and when, that decides. Tactics more than chance.
Over time the child builds their own deck and faces both regular opponents and bosses. There's enough depth to get hooked on, but it's quick to pick up.
And you learn something along the way
This is my favorite part as a teacher. In the middle of all this, the child actually practices math, to work out how strong the cards get, and logic, in the clever problems that come up along the way. But it never feels like homework, because the child does it to win the duel, not because someone tells them to. The best learning is the kind you don't notice.
